About
I've owned several small businesses and served as treasurer for a handful of local arts non-profits. Somewhere in there I found out I actually like bookkeeping - keeping the books current, then pulling a report that makes the next decision obvious.
What I didn't like was the software. I tried the popular online options - QuickBooks, Wave, and others. Their free and entry-level plans left out basics I needed, like tagging transactions by fund, grant, or project. Their upper tiers added a pile of features a small business or non-profit will never touch, billed every month, forever.
So I built the tool I wanted: the essentials done well, your books in a file you own, and no subscription for features you'll never use. If you're a DIY bookkeeper like me, I made BeanSprout for you.
